Curiouser and curiouser – the state of journalism today

A man stands beside a University of Derby journalism display, speaking or presenting. Behind him is a large screen showing a newspaper clipping titled "SCHOOL STRIKERS MARCH" from the Daily Telegraph and a presentation slide that reads "and curiouser: journalism today". A promotional banner beside him features a young man speaking into a professional microphone in a radio studio.

There is much to celebrate about journalism today, despite the doom and gloom surrounding the trade, according to journalism educator and branch member Tony Harcup (pictured).

Tony, who has taught at Leeds Trinity University and most recently at the University of Sheffield, was invited to give a keynote address to the Association for Journalism Education annual conference.

A Life member of the NUJ, he was this year also elected Union Learning Officer of the Leeds & West Yorkshire branch.
